It thrives in bright sunlight and blooms with striking purple-pink flowers that are shaped similarly to those of some Phalaenopsis species (though not related to Phalaenopsis). \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis cultivar, \u003cem\u003evar. compactum\u003c\/em\u003e, is a compact variety and forms tight clumps of short pseudobulbs ranging from 4-6 inches in length. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt needs consistent moisture during active growth and prefers warm to hot temperatures. Watering should be reduced in the fall and winter, and fertilizing should be stopped completely between October through April. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey are very hardy plants and are known to be drought resistant. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese plants will flower best when given very bright light, but avoid harsh afternoon sunlight.
