psychopsis-mendenhall-hildos
Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos' FCC/AOS

A truly unique orchid! These orchids are related to oncidium - their foliage however is beautifully mottled with maroon markings and they have thick, stiff leaves and small rounded pseudobulbs.

The flowers are showstopping! Featuring bright oranges and yellows, with wispy, antennae-like sepals and a large, round ruffled lip. The flower spikes bloom sequentially and some plants have been reported to have been in constant blooming cycles for years at a time. Because of this, we strongly suggest to not cut any bloom spikes unless they have dried and turned brown!

These plants are fussy with repotting, so when repotting, try to not disturb the roots much. We suggest to simply lift the plant out of the pot and put it in a new pot that is a size bigger, then add a little media around the empty pockets around the root ball.

Give moderate lighting (an east or south window with a sheer curtain does well). Pot in a well draining media (i.e. bark mixed with perlite chunks) and water just before the media dries completely.

Blooming size plants in 3" pots.

Bloom photo taken by T.
