October: Bulbophyllum saltatorium

October: Bulbophyllum saltatorium

For this spooky month, we have a spooky orchid - Bulbophyllum saltatorium. Boo!

This bulbophyllum is our pick this month since it features a few weird characteristics. Firstly, note the dark maroon and "blood" red colors - a total Halloween vibe, it's giving vampire. Secondly, these tiny flowers feature a fuzzy, red beard that twitches in the breeze. Check out the video below to get a glimpse of it's exotic, spooky flair!

Bulbophyllum saltatorium is native to Africa’s lowland forests. It loves a steamy, hot environment with high humidity. It'll do best in partial shade in a moisture-retentive medium, along with good air circulation. This one tends to ramble around the pot or on its mount a bit - a bit of a free spirit, this one! We love that for them <3

Thanks for tuning in to OOTM: October edition -  we'll catch you around next month for November's highlight!
