A unique collector plant!
Chysis are semi-terrestrial Central American orchids that grow thick pseudobulbs and thin leaves, the plants are also deciduous.

Grow similarly to Catasetinae but with a few differences: Chysis prefer to have more even moisture in the fall and winter where Catasetinae need to completely dry and stay dry. Chysis should also be kept in higher humidity during growth and a want a bit less light.

During active growth keep them evenly moist, but not waterlogged. Reduce watering and fertilizing in the winter, only watering when the bulbs start to shrivel (about every 7-10 days).
These do exceptionally well in hanging baskets - if in baskets, water every day or every other day during active growth.

The leaves will drop once the bulb is fully developed, this is when watering should be reduced.

These plants will bloom from the new growth, and unlike many orchids they bloom before the new growth has finished developing.

flowers are also lightly, sweetly scented.

Blooming size plants in 2" pots.

Note: Leaves will turn yellow and drop after new growth/bulbs mature, as these are deciduous plants. Expect bulbs to be leafless during the fall-winter.
