Laelia (Cattleya) lundii coerulea 'Valley Isle'
Laelia (Cattleya) lundii coerulea 'Valley Isle'
Laelia lundii (also recently renamed to Cattleya lundii) is found in South America from Bolivia and Brazil down through Argentina. This particular form is the coerulea form which has a more lavender/blue-purple color in the lip than the typical purple/pink.
Uniquely, this is the only laelia species in the South American region to feature bifoliate growth. The leaves also typically have yellow-green splotching throughout - this is not a virus or infection, but a characteristic of the species.
Buds emerge from new growths when the new growth is approx. 1-2 inches - bloom spikes resemble new leaf growth.
It's an easy grower that stays compact - water when the media is nearly dry; pot into clay or plastic with a mix that contains sphagnum moss or tree fern fiber; give bright, filtered light and intermediate-warm temps.
These are divisions established in 2.5" pots, blooming size.
