A lovely miniature in the Cattleya Alliance that is native to South America (Brazil and Paraguay). These plants are known to be great for beginners in the orchid hobby because they are easy to grow and flower!

Fun fact: in Brazil, the seed pods are sometimes used to make a flavoring that is similar to vanilla as the pods themselves are known to contain the same volatile compound found in traditional vanilla extract (called vanillin).

In cultivation, they are mostly grown mounted, but they can be grown potted with a very well draining bark mixture.
Give them moderate lighting - in a house, this would be in an East window or a South window with a sheer curtain - just don't expose them to direct sunlight.
Allow them to dry lightly between watering (water about twice a week or every 3-5 days).

We think they are easiest to care for mounted on bark or potted into an airy basket.

These are still seedlings, but should be blooming size in about 2 years.
We have a handful that are mounted on bark and a handful that are potted in 2" pots

(*Note that the potted plants were just potted and are not yet established!)
