This species is native to India, Nepal, and the Northern Yunnan Province of China where it tends to grow on limestone outcrops. It grows in cool to intermediate temperatures and shaded indirect lighting. It can tolerate warmer temps, but prefers a range below 85F.

This variety is a yellow form of this species, featuring a yellow-green flower with a white fringed sepal. It also lacks the typical spots on the petals and sepal of the typical form.
